Tulsa Project-21

Mission:

Discover ground truth on reports of mass graves in and around Tulsa, Oklahoma dating back to the Tulsa Race Massacre of May 31/June 1, 1921. We’ll collect, analyze & synthesize data using modern technologies & professional investigative & intelligence techniques in the search for mass graves dating back to the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot.

Developments:

  • Project-21 initiated operations in the Fall of 2020 during the lead up to the May 31/June 1, 2021 Centennial of the 1921 Race Massacre. This included a familiarization visit to the city, establishing research parameters & collecting, analyzing & synthesizing a wide range of data.

  • During the Centennial, we had a team in Tulsa meeting with, interviewing & collecting data from people from across Tulsa’s communities. The team attended centennial events & visited, inspected & photographed suspected mass grave sites.

  • Since the Centennial weekend, the team continues its research & data collection in communication with officials & community leaders.

  • Planning is underway for a third visit to build community relationships & continue data collection & site assessments.
